Survivor Horde 0.0.2 Patch


Hi! Welcome to my first Devlog for my Zombeez Game Jam submission "Survivor Horde".

With the Zombeez Game Jam and the voting over, I decided to give an update on the game! 

In this patch, there was a focus on the major bug that arose on submissions, minor changes made from feedback received from the other game jam developers.

Major Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Zombie Spawners that were spawning zombies in the air, appearing stuck on a bush. Now the zombies can spawn out of player bounds and begin to walk to the survivor checkpoint

Minor Changes

  • Added death noise when the Tank boss zombie is defeated
  • Lowered volume of gunshots to quarter the volume
  • Added pitch randomising to sound effects, adding variety to the game and making each done sound different
  • Weapon drops can now be interacted with by the player ('E' on Keyboard, 'X' on Xbox controller) instead of picking up automatically, allowing players to keep the strong weapons they were lucky enough to find
  • Added de-spawn timer to weapon drops so that there aren't hundreds of guns floating around
  • Lowered Boss Zombies' health to stop them being bullet sponges 

Future Steps

I plan to work further on this project as I have ideas on where I want to take it, but first I want to focus on the feedback received and some optimising to help set up for future. 

My next planned steps are as follows:

  1. Set up Object Pooling to reuse objects instead of creating and destroying
  2. Using the art provided by the Game jam host, create zombie variants
  3. Create a playable level to replace the programmers' sandbox currently used
  4. Add obstacles and puzzles outside of "Kill all the zombies"
  5. Work on GDD further to create long term plan
  6.  Think of a less generic name for the game
